Elections at OGSSI

Every year, OGSSI conducts democratic elections to select dedicated members who will lead the Society forward. A Team of 21 elected members conducts the Society's proceedings for each financial year, running from April to March. Elections are held for one post each in the categories of Vice President, Honorary Joint Secretary, Honorary Joint Treasurer, Managing Committee Member, and five Executive Committee Members, ensuring fresh leadership and continuity year after year.

The entire process is designed to be transparent and accessible, with nominations circulated well in advance and voting conducted online for the convenience of members. This democratic tradition has helped OGSSI build a strong, dedicated leadership pipeline over the decades — one that continues to represent the Society with distinction at both the state and national level.

Election Timeline

Nomination form is circulated to all members through mail and WhatsApp groups, 6 weeks before the election date (default: First Tuesday of January)
Election date is finalized during the January EC Meeting
Election announcement is circulated in the OGSSI WhatsApp Group
Elections (if any) are conducted online on the day of the Clinical Meeting in February (Last Tuesday)

Voting is conducted online, with clear instructions provided to every member. A dedicated provision to facilitate online voting is also available at the OGSSI Office, Egmore. The incoming team formally takes charge during OGSSICON, the Annual Conference of OGSSI held in March.

Note: Unopposed contestants face no election.

Executive Committee Member

Candidates must have been an OGSSI member for a minimum of 5 continuous years, with their FOGSI Journal subscription renewed and up to date. A total of 5 posts are available each year.

Honorary Joint Secretary

Candidates must have served as an Executive Committee Member for 2 tenures (4 years). The elected person serves as Honorary Joint Secretary in the first year, then takes over as Honorary Secretary in the second year.

Honorary Joint Treasurer

Candidates must have served as an Executive Committee Member for 2 tenures (4 years). The elected person serves as Honorary Joint Treasurer in the first year, then takes over as Honorary Treasurer in the second year.

Vice President

Candidates must have held 2 of the following 3 posts: Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, or Managing Committee Member. The elected person serves as Vice President in the first year, then takes over as President in the second year.

Managing Committee Member

Candidates must have served as an Executive Committee Member for 2 tenures (4 years). The elected person then serves as Managing Committee Member for the following 2 years.

Advisory Committee Member

Members for this post are not elected but chosen by the incoming President for the year. A total of 2 posts are available, offering experienced OGSSIans a continued advisory role within the Society.

Nomination Process

An OGSSI member can nominate only one candidate and second only one candidate. A nomination form must be duly filled, proposed, seconded, and accepted by the candidate
